NetZero v3.1.2 vs Dial-Up Networking

On November 19th 2000 in NetZero v3.0.4, NetZero introdu
ced a new policy
for stopping access through Dial-up Networking, by denying Dial-Up access
to their Servers. All NetZero did was change the way the "Real" Username
and
Password are sent to their Servers.
So here it is Newbies and Lamers...
Once again with the release of NetZero v3.1.2 in February, NetZero can be
accessed via a Dial-Up Networking Connection.
Dail-Up Networking
1. Right click Network Nieghborhood, choose "Properties" or My Compu
ter, Control Panel
and Network.
2. Click Dial-Up Adapter and choose Properties. In previous NetZero versions all
that was
required was to check the "Record a log file" in the Connection prope
rties under Dial-Up
Networking. But in v3.0.4, Zcast would uncheck the option once the Connec
tion was invoked.
3. Under the Advanced Tab, click "Record a log file" and change the Valu
e to "Yes"
4. Click "Ok" twice and Reboot.
5. Connect to NetZero then Log Off.
6. Search for a file in C:\WINDOWS called "ppplog.txt" on Win9&
#120; and "ppp.log" on WinNT v4.0 in
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\RAS. PPP logging has to be enabled in WinNT by editing the
"Logging" DWORD
Value from 0 to 1 under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP
7. Look for this text :3A1.2: in front of your regular NetZero Username
with an @netzero.net
behind it. This is a change from NetZero v3.0.4 which used 3.0.4: in
front of the Username.
8. The Password will be seperated from the Username by a "Period" and wi
ll start with a 0 and
end with a 2. This is also a change from NetZero v3.0.4 which had a 0
and a 1 with the
Password between.
Example:
Username :3A1.2:netloser@netzero.net
Password 0bEaa##32
9. But that is not the "Real" NetZero Log On information. This infor
mation cannot be used
to Log On using Dial-Up Networking. It will Log On to the Internet, but will
only go to
the "Upgrade Your Software" page no matter what URL is typed.
10. The Real NetZero Log On Username now uses a :chg3Nkj before the :3A&
#49;.2: in front of the
Username.
Example:
Username :chg3Nkj:3A1.2:netloser@netzero.net
Password 0bEaa##32
11.11. Create the Dial-Up Connection.
Windows 95/98
Disconnect from NetZero, go back to the "Dial-Up Networking" Folder and
double click
on "Make New Connection", name it, click "Next", type the
local access phone number,
click "Next", and "Finish". A new icon is now created in t
he Dial-Up Networking folder.
Right click "Properties", uncheck "Log on to network", "Net
BEUI" and "IPX/SPX". Double
click the new icon, enter in your new User Name and Password, and click "Co
nnect".
Windows NT 4.0
Disconnect from NetZero, go to "Dial-Up Networking" and click on "N
ew". Name the
connection and add the local access phone numbers. Click "Dial", enter
in the User
Name and Password, clear the "DOMAIN", and click "OK".
Windows 2000
Disconnect from NetZero, right click "My Network Places" and "Prope
rties". Click on
"Make New Connection" and click "Next". Choose "Dial-U
p to the Internet" and click
"Next". Click "I want to set up my connection manually",
"Next", "I connect through
a phone line or modem" and click "Next". Enter a NetZero acces
s number and click
"Next". Enter the new NetZero Username and Password and click "
;Next". Name the
Connection, click "Next", skip the E-mail setup and click "Fin
ish".
